Anna Mae (Pochebit) Mazeiko

SACO – Anna Mae (Pochebit) Mazeiko, 92, formerly of Harrison Avenue and Lina Avenue, Saco and most recently of Huntington Common in Kennebunk, passed away with her daughters at her bedside on Friday, November 29, 2019.

Anna was born on March 12, 1927 in Newton, Mass., the first daughter of Vladimir and Sophia (Pigaga) Pochebit. Anna graduated from Thornton Academy, Saco in 1946. She started working at Diamond Match Company in Biddeford in 1946 through 1952. After taking time to raise her three children, she returned to the workforce as a bank teller with Canal Bank in Saco in 1961, retiring in 1989 as Assistant Manager after a successful career. She was very active for many years as a volunteer at her church, Most Holy Trinity Church / Good Shepherd Parish, Saco where she helped by baking and serving at various functions and by knitting prayer shawls, sweaters and baby blankets. Anna also volunteered at the Saco Food Pantry, enjoyed candlepin bowling, tending her yard and flower gardens and walking her dogs.

While residing at Huntington Common, she was named the “Patriot Purler” after her daughter Elizabeth asked Anna to help knit hats that are delivered to soldiers by the Pease Greeters of Portsmouth, N.H. The Journal Tribune featured a nice article of Anna sharing her talents with the troops.

Anna is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Abdulla and her husband George, of Salem, NH; Susan Goodenough and her husband William of Exeter, NH; daughter in law Myn (Beam) Mazeiko, NY; three grandchildren, Anthony Abdulla and wife Samantha, MA; Kristen Juzaitis, NC; Natasha Williams and husband Eric, PA; six great-grandchildren, Allison, Nicole and Jeffrey Juzaitis, Sara and Bennet Williams and Zoe Abdulla; sister Lillian Husser of Saco, ME and brother John Pochebit of Portland, ME and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Anna was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, John Mazeiko in July of 2013 and by her son Peter John Mazeiko in August of 2018.

Anna’s smile was contagious, her kindness and generosity appreciated by those who knew her. She is greatly missed by her family.

Visiting Hours will be 9:30am – 10:45am Friday, December 6, 2019 at Cote Funeral Home, 87 James Street, Saco. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Friday, December 6, 2019, at Most Holy Trinity Church, Good Shepherd Parish in Saco. Entombment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco.
