In Mr. Balentine’s weekly column from Jan. 29 (“What’s a conservative to do?”) he expresses fear that the Biden administration will “change America as we’ve known it.”
America as I’ve known it for the past four years under a Trump administration featured leadership in which lying was normal, degradation and name calling of adversaries was acceptable, dismissing and diminishing the value of women and minorities was fine, rebuffing immigrants was expected, offending allies was safe, embracing hate groups and conspiracy theories was fruitful, ignoring climate change was harmless, and diminishing the importance of the free press was smart. The four years were not America as I knew it.
Rather than fearing Joe Biden we should rejoice that we will now return to America wherein the White House offers respect, honesty, truth, integrity, honor, grace and humility. We will return to a White House that values science to fight a pandemic. We will return to a White House that embraces allies. We will return to a White House that addresses climate change on behalf of our children and grandchildren. We will return to a White House that adamantly denies the value of hate groups. We will return to a White House without daily tweets of misinformation.
Our children will no longer suffer from a distorted model of leadership and humanity.
Yes, a Biden administration will change America as we’ve known it for the past four years, and that is a very good thing!
