Residents and associates at Northbridge Communities’ Westbrook Campus were smiling with their eyes as they received the final dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at Stroudwater Lodge and Avita of Stroudwater campus.

“Our first of three clinics marks the first step in our journey of hope, a journey to knock out COVID, as a community,” Nichole Doyer, senior executive director of Stroudwater Lodge, said in a press release.

“After over 10 months of social distancing, mask wearing and adjusting to a new, and at times challenging, normal, everyone is celebrating the chance to get back to what we do best at Stroudwater Lodge and Avita – living well and loving life, safely together.”

Stroudwater Lodge resident, Connie Levesque shared why she decided to get the vaccine: “I never questioned it. With the virus spreading like it is, I thought it was important to get the vaccination. I feel as though we can be helping other people by getting the vaccine, it is a great example to your family to know you are taking care of yourself. We must do these things – it is as simple as that to me.”

Food train gearing up for 2021

This year marks the 10th for the “Climb Aboard the Food Train” drive to benefit the Westbrook Food Pantry. Trinity Lutheran Church, 612 Main St., sponsors the annual event.

Donation jars will be placed in businesses around the city.

The church reported this week that the 2020 event was successful even with many businesses closed in the midst of the pandemic. Last year’s top 10 businesses were Duck Pond Variety, Blazes Burgers, Bill Foye’s Carpert, Gagne and Son Concrete, Saco Biddeford Savings Bank, Ed’s Batteries, Sherwin Williams, Severino’s Variety, Gulf Market and Sullivan’s Tire.

“We appreciate the many local businesses and churches who will be helping our food drive,” Trinity Lutheran said in a press release.

For more information, call the church at 854-5653 or email office@trinitywestbrook.com.
