Kate Kennedy

In honor of Women’s History Month Biddeford Cultural and Heritage Center is sponsoring a presentation by author Kate Kennedy on March 20 at 3 p.m., The Strong Women of Maine.

Maine has had an abundance of remarkable women who helped to shape the state and communities we live in. Kennedy will delve into some of them, such as Toy Len Goon, who in 1952 was “ crowned” America’s Mother of the Year, Margaret Chase Smith and her Franco-American heritage, and others who have impacted the state and communities today.

Kennedy has published a novel, “End Over End” and a collection of short biographies, entitled “Maine’s Remarkable Women: Daughters, Wives, Sisters, and Mothers Who Shaped History.” Her essays and fiction have appeared in a number of literary magazines. Her most recent book, “Skin, A Memoir,” was published by Littoral Books in the summer of 2020. Kennedy taught writing at Portland High School for 20 years and at the University of Maine. She was also the director of the Southern Maine Writing Project at USM. She has an undergraduate degree from Wellesley College and a master’s degree from University of California, Los Angeles. She has lived in Maine since 1977, and currently resides in Cape Elizabeth.

Due to the current COVID pandemic, the presentation with follow-up discussion will be offered as an online event via a zoom link. If you would like the link or have additional questions, contact BCHC at bchc04005@gmail.com or call 207-283-3993 for more info.
