BIDDEFORD — City officials are estimating the work on Edwards Avenue and Cole Road in Biddeford that was scheduled to begin on Monday, April 5 will last for about three weeks.

The project will involve re-pavement of travel ways, the installation of 500 feet of new storm drain to keep water off of the pavement, and replacement of gas main by Unitil.

Only local traffic will be allowed through the construction area, and motorists are asked to expect delays and seek alternate routes when possible.

Edwards Avenue was one of the top five streets that competed for the title of “Biddeford’s Worst Road” in an online voting competition held last fall, and it came in second place to Grayson Street, receiving 31 percent of the vote, said Biddeford Communications Coordinator Danica Lamontagne. Although city officials had only guaranteed that the road that received the most votes would be paved, the Public Works Department agreed with the assessment that Edwards Avenue needed new pavement, she said.

Those with questions or concerns about the project, are asked to contact Dylan Jewett, operations manager, or Jeff Demers, director of Public Works, at 207-282-1579.
