Barbara Elizabeth (Smith) Rand

PORTLAND – Barbara E. Rand, 76, died April 6, 2021 at the Oddfellow and Rebekah’s Home in Auburn where she spent the last few years due to her dementia. She was born Nov. 10, 1944 in Portland, the daughter of the late Madson R. Smith Sr. and the late Esther L. (Strout) Smith. On March 19, 1966, she married the late Wilbur E. Rand and they were married for 45 years until his passing in 2011. She grew up on Munjoy Hill and was educated in the Portland school system graduating from Portland High School in 1963. She had a great work history; her last job was the secretary of the Oddfellow and Rebekah’s Grand Lodge of Maine on Caron Lane in Auburn where she retired after 30 years. She belonged to the Oddfellow Lodge and the Rebekah’s Ivy #5, Haddatah Lodge #117, Eastern Star Encampment #2. She will always be known for her amazing smile and her love of her family.She grew up with five siblings, the late Jeanette Avenall of Michigan, Madson Smith Jr. of Florida, Charles Smith of Ohio, Timothy Smith of Portland, Deborah Smith of Portland; two daughters, Julie Hicks of Corinth and DeAnn Cruz of Brunswick. She will also be missed by Terry Hicks; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; aunts, uncles; nieces, and nephews.Friends and family are invited to visitation on Tuesday April 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Jones, Rich and Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, at the funeral home, followed by the committal at Brooklawn Memorial Cemetery.
