Aiden Joyce

SCARBOROUGH — Aiden J. Joyce of Scarborough has accepted an offer to attend the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. Congresswoman Chellie Pingree nominated Joyce to the Academy in December 2020.

In his letter requesting a nomination, Joyce wrote, “The structure and rigidity of West Point would make my college experience as formative as possible, not only in the classroom, but in the form of improved leadership skills, life-long friendships, and a more disciplined approach to life overall.”

“Acceptance to a U.S. service academy is extremely competitive and reflects highly on a student’s scholarship, community service, and character,” said Pingree. “Along with all the other Maine students I nominated, Aiden has demonstrated an incredible commitment to serving our country and a maturity well beyond his years. I’m very proud that he was accepted to West Point and wish him the very best in his time there.”

Aiden is a senior at Scarborough High School. His parents are Katherine and Kevin Joyce.

To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, applicants must be nominated by an authorized nominating source, which includes Members of Congress.
