Perhaps Maine Rep. Billy Bob Faulkingham, R-Winter Harbor, is correct in his support of L.D.101 – that offshore wind farms anywhere along the Maine coast would completely destroy the Maine fishing industry. But even if he is, this total ban permanent is not necessary.
If climate change is not attenuated by an immediate reduction in our fossil fuel use, the continued ocean warming will soon destroy the fishing industry anyway. At which point, we might as well bring back wind farms.
I should think a compromise is possible by giving the fisherman what they want while allowing the development of safe off-shore wind farms that ultimately will help save the fishing industry for future generations.
