BIDDEFORD — Mayor Alan Casavant will appoint a new councilor to fill the remaining months of a term recently vacated by Robert Quattrone, who resigned because he is moving out of Biddeford.
Quattrone told the City Council on May 18 that he would resign that evening, effective immediately. His latest two-year term, to which he was elected in November 2019, expires in early December.
Quattrone was first elected in 2013 and served all but six months of his fourth term.
He announced his resignation at the beginning of the online council meeting and expressed his thanks to his constituents. “It was a pleasure meeting and getting to know them,” he said, of the residents of his district. He expressed thanks to city staff, whom he said were always patient in answering his questions, and to his fellow councilors and the mayor.
He said he and his family were relocating.
Other councilors wished him well.

Ward 4 is bisected by Hill Street and includes a number of residential side streets that run from it. The ward stretches past Biddeford’s primary, middle and intermediate schools into a portion of the industrial park, ending at Landry Street, according to the city’s ward maps.
The charter states that “if a vacancy in the membership of the City Council occurs more than 180 days after the previous election, the Mayor shall nominate, and the City Council shall confirm, a person to fill this vacancy within a period not to exceed 30 days of its occurrence.”
