SCARBOROUGH — Despite the death of celebrated actress Betty White on Dec. 31 just days prior to what would have been her 100th birthday on Jan. 17, that didn’t stop the Enclave of Scarborough Senior Living from celebrating White’s birthday with ‘Wear it Wednesday style!

From a ‘Keep it Golden luncheon’ featuring White’s favorite foods, PBB (peanut butter bologna with iceberg lettuce on white bread) sandwich and a ‘naked hot dog’ (hot dog on the bun with no condiments), to one of her all-time favorite beverages, ice cold Diet Coke, to dog bone shaped sugar cookies to highlight her dedicated years as an animal rights advocate.

The entire dining room was decorated with pink and white balloons and centerpieces with photographs of White throughout her life and some of her famous quotes.

Enclave Lifestyles team also made sure residents had strawberry and black licorice Twizzlers which everyone raved about. They thought of every delicious detail and even had a “Golden Girls” marathon — a mid-1980s to early 1990s sitcom in which White had one of the starring roles — beginning with the first pilot episode with a serving of animal crackers in their movie theater.

Later, they took a closer look at her life story by passing around copies of People Magazine.

Everyone even wore Betty White or “Golden Girl” shirts and one woman with curlers in her hair to “embrace her inner little old lady.”

Residents ended the evening watching the Disney+ documentary of White, “Betty Goes Wild.” This entire event was part of the #bettywhitechallenge to raise awareness to give back to local animal shelters as requested on the day of her death.
