BIDDEFORD — A 27-year-old Biddeford man accused of beating a woman in the face with a firearm and shooting at a man and at people in a vehicle in Biddeford has been arrested on multiple warrants by the U.S. Marshals Service Violent Offender Task Force.
David Matos was taken into custody on Feb. 4 after leaving a Biddeford address on foot.
Law enforcement authorities allege Matos was the perpetrator in a violent assault against a woman on Feb. 3, said Ryan Guay, senior inspector with the U.S. Marshals Office of Public Affairs in Maine.
“The victim was transported from Biddeford to a Boston-area hospital for severe injuries to her face after reportedly being pistol-whipped multiple times with a firearm,” said Guay in a news release.
On Feb. 4, police allege Matos was the person who fired at least six shots at the occupants of a vehicle.
They believe Matos is responsible for a similar incident on Dec. 21, where a 911 caller told police that a man shot at him and drove away.
On Feb. 4, investigators developed information that led them to an address in Saco but when the Maine State Police Tactical Team arrived, they learned Matos had already left, said Guay.
“Through a collaborative effort, investigators determined that Matos fled to an address in Biddeford. U.S. Marshals were able to safely apprehend Matos later that evening as he left the residence on foot,” said Guay.
Matos was arrested on warrants charging elevated aggravated assault, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, reckless conduct with a firearm, and two counts of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Guay said the Biddeford Police Department is continuing its investigation, and that additional charges are anticipated. Matos was taken to York County Jail in Alfred.
Investigators worked into the early hours of Saturday morning processing evidence from the arrest, Guay said. Subsequent to Matos’s arrest, a loaded 9mm caliber Glock pistol, 53 grams of suspected drugs and $3,596 in cash were seized by authorities.
The USMS Maine Violent Offender Task Force includes members of the U.S Marshals Service, Maine State Police, Maine Department of Corrections, Biddeford Police Department and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. It was assisted in this case by additional Biddeford officers, Saco Police, Old Orchard Beach Police, the Maine State Police Tactical Team, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations.
