SACO — Mayor William Doyle issued a Community Health Proclamation Monday, urging residents to take precautions against COVID-19.

In the proclamation, Doyle noted that the Centers for Disease Control recommends wearing masks, being fully vaccinated, and boosted when eligible, to help mitigate severe illness from COVID-19.

“Now therefore, I, Mayor William Doyle of Saco, Maine, encourage the citizens of Saco to take appropriate precautions to mitigate the likelihood of severe illness and the continued spread of COVID-19,” he said.

The proclamation notes that COVID-19 continues to impact the community “in unprecedented ways as the highly contagious omicron variant spreads.”

It further notes that local businesses struggle with the impact of employee absences on services and operations, and that Saco schools are navigating the complexities of COVID symptoms, illness, and exposure.

Last month, Biddeford Mayor Alan Casavant issued a proclamation encouraging residents and visitors to wear masks in all public settings, and to be patient and understanding of the challenges the pandemic imposes on everyone.
