BASKETBALL
Chris Clemons had a triple-double for the second straight game and the Maine Celtics beat the Greensboro Swarm 105-99 in an NBA G League game on Saturday at the Portland Expo.
Clemons finished with 19 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. He had 38 points, 15 rebounds and 14 assists in Maine’s 121-117 win over the Wisconsin Herd on Thursday.
Deonte Burton had a game-high 27 points, as well as eight rebounds and seven assists for Maine. Juwan Morgan also had 21 points.
Arnoldas Kluboka had 23 points and Jalen Crutcher 22 for Greensboro.
HOCKEY
ECHL: The Newfoundland Growlers jumped out to a three-goal lead and beat the Maine Mariners 4-1 in an ECHL game on Saturday in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Jeremy McKenna scored 34 seconds into the game for the Growlers. Evan Neugold made it 2-0 later in the first and Ryan Chyzowski made it 3-0 in the second. Mathew Santos scored later in the second for Maine, before McKenna added his second goal in the third.
Keith Petruzzelli made 23 saves for Newfoundland, while Callum Booth had 27 saves for Maine.
GOLF
PGA TOUR: Sam Ryder brought down the house with a hole-in-one on the stadium 16th hole in the WM Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, Arizona, where newcomer Sahith Theegala topped a leaderboard as crowded as the course.
Ryder’s wedge shot on the 124-yard hole landed just right and short, bounced a couple of times, spun left and tumbled in. The rowdy fans on the 17,000-seat hole threw drinks in the air in celebration and littered the turf with bottles, cans and cups, leading to about a 15-minute delay.
Making his event debut on a sponsor exemption, Theegala had a 14-under 199 total for a one-stroke lead over defending champion Brooks Koepka. FedEx Cup champion Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele, Scottie Scheffler and Talor Gooch were another stroke back.
EUROPEAN TOUR: Ryan Fox will take a six-shot lead into the final round of the Ras Al Khaimah Classic in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, as he goes in search of his first win on the European tour.
The 211th-ranked New Zealander shot 7-under 65 in the third round for a 54-hole total of 19-under 197.
Pablo Larrazabal (68), Adri Arnaus (66), Adrian Meronk (64) and Scott Jamieson (65) are tied for second place at Al Hamra Golf Club, the latest stop on the tour’s “Desert Swing.”
VIC OPEN: Former U.S. Women’s PGA champion Hannah Green shot a 4-under 68 and increased her lead to five strokes after three rounds of the Vic Open, in Barwon Heads, Australia
Green, who won the Women’s PGA tournament on the LPGA Tour in 2019 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota, had a 12-under par total of 205 at the 13th Beach Golf Links.
Karis Davidson (68) and Whitney Hillier (75) were tied for second.
The Vic Open features a men’s and women’s tournament in mixed groups.
In the men’s event, John Lyras maintained his tournament-long lead with a 70 and a three-round total of 16-under 200. Fellow Australian Dimitrios Papadatos was a stroke behind after a 68, and four players were tied for third, two behind Lyras.
SOCCER
PREMIER LEAGUE: Raheem Sterling scored a hat trick as Manchester City beat Norwich 4-0 to move 12 points clear in the English Premier League.
Phil Foden also scored at Carrow Road as City extended its unbeaten run in the league to 15 games.
Second-placed Liverpool has two games in hand over City, starting away to last-placed Burnley on Sunday.
• Everton claimed just its second win since September in the English Premier League by beating Leeds 3-0 to move five points clear of the relegation zone.
Goals from Seamus Coleman, Michael Keane and Anthony Gordon steered Everton to victory in its first home league game under Frank Lampard.
• Christian Eriksen got the biggest cheer of the day at Brentford.
The Denmark international was introduced to the team’s supporters on the field ahead of kickoff for the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace in the English Premier League, eight months to the day since his cardiac arrest at the European Championship.
TENNIS
ROTTERDAM: Top-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas rallied past a qualifier at the Rotterdam hard-court indoor tournament to reach his first final since the French Open last June.
Tsitsipas ended Czech qualifier Jiri Lehecka’s run by 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. He will face Felix Auger-Aliassime in Sunday’s final after the third seed came back from one set down to beat defending champion Andrey Rublev.
Tsitsipas was made to work for nearly two hours by the 137th-ranked Lehecka, who previously upset Denis Shapovalov.
ARGENTINA OPEN: Top-seeded players Casper Ruud and Diego Schwartzman will play in Sunday’s final in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The Norwegian Ruud, the 8th-best ranked player, and the Argentinian Schwartzman, the 15th-best player, won the 2020 and 2021 editions of the clay court tournament, respectively.
Ruud beat Argentinian Federico Delbonis 6-3, 6-3 on Saturday. Hours later, Schwartzman topped third-seeded player Lorenzo Sonego of Italy in a tense match by 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.
Schwarztman had finished just a few hours earlier his quarterfinal tie against his compatriot and 2021 runner-up Francisco Cerundolo. The match was interrupted Friday night in the third set, tied 1-1, due to rain.
Schwartzman won 3-6, 6-2, 7-5.
