Three people were transported by ambulance to the hospital after their motor vehicle struck a telephone pole Sunday afternoon on Washington Avenue in Portland.

David Singer, spokesman for the Portland Police Department, described their injuries as non-life-threatening, but said the crash knocked out power temporarily to traffic lights at Washington Avenue and Veranda Street, as well as the lights at Washington Avenue and Presumpscot Street.

Central Maine Power crews responded and restored power. The cause of the crash, which took place around 3 p.m. in the vicinity of 527 Washington Ave., remains under investigation.
