CUMBERLAND – William “Bill” LeRoy Bickford, 78, passed away at his Cumberland residence on Feb. 9, 2022 following a bacterial pneumonia infection. He was born Feb. 11, 1943 in Bangor, the son of LeRoy “Roy” and Beulah (Mittenthal) Bickford. A graduate of Bangor High School, he served in the Air National Guard until his medical discharge. He then worked in his brother Gary’s auto body shop for several years. He moved to Worcester, Mass. where he worked on integrated circuits for Sprague Electric. Here he met and married his wife of 51 years, Charlotte (Lilly). Upon moving back to Maine, he worked as an optical technician for various optical companies for 30-plus years. His favorite pastime as “tinkering” at his workbench in the garage. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by a sister, Caroline, brothers Bernard “Sonny”, and Gary of Bangor, Edwin “Eddie” of New Hampshire.Along with his wife he is survived by two sisters-in-law, Susie of Corinth and Shirley of Carmel; niece, Belinda and Rodney Hallet of Milford (their children and grandchildren); nephew, Scott and wife Kim of Brunswick (son Nick); and niece, Sharon of Milton, N.H. (son Ryan). A memorial service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on March 26 at Emmaus Lutheran Church, 265 Middle Rd., Falmouth ME 04105.
