BIDDEFORD — Biddeford Police cited seven businesses in the city for allegedly selling or serving liquor to a minor during February compliance checks.

Another 12 were found to be following Maine’s liquor laws, said Chief Roger Beaupre in a news release.

As part of the Biddeford Police Department’s ongoing efforts to address underage drinking, it conducted compliance checks at 19 establishments that serve or sell liquor in Biddeford, the police chief said.

The legal drinking age in Maine is 21.

The compliance checks were carried out on Thursday, Feb. 24, and Saturday, Feb. 26. Each of the seven businesses alleged to be flouting Maine’s underage drinking laws resulted in an administrative notice to the licensee and individual seller for sale of liquor to a minor, said Beaupre.

The seven businesses alleged to be in violation include 7 Boston Connection, Biddeford Smoke Shop, Downtown Market, Sea Star Market, Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar, Longhorn Steakhouse and Mi Pueblo Tacos Y Tequila, according to the police department’s news release.

Beaupre said the dozen establishments that complied, with no violations noted, include 7-Eleven, 99 Restaurant and Pub, Coastal Discount Beverage and Redemption, Jakys, Kobe Japanese Grill and Sushi Bar, Nadeau’s Deli & Variety, New Morning Natural Foods, Nibblesford, Paul’s Variety, Ray’s Market, Red Rocket Smoke Shop and Three D’s Variety.
