BIDDEFORD — Each month, September through April, AMVETS Post 1 in Biddeford hosts a public breakfast serving up a tasty morning meal and a chance for attendees to say hello to friends and neighbors.

Each month the proceeds are donated to a specific group or charity.

In February, the $900 earned from the February breakfast was donated to Biddeford Food Pantry.

AMVETS members delivered the check on a recent day.

“This time of year, the need for food is often overwhelming,” said Biddeford Food Pantry President Don Bisson in a news release. ” Your gift will go a long way in helping Biddeford’s hungry families.”

“We’ve been doing these breakfasts every year with all the proceeds going to local groups and charities,” said Jim Thibodeau, the post’s finance officer and member of the breakfast kitchen crew that also includes Lionel Lamontagne, Richard Thibodeau, Robert Bourgault, Paul Thibodeau, and contingent of wait staff and busboys.

Previous recipients include two Biddeford High School Scholarships, Toys for Tots, and In a Pinch Non-Food Pantry, Biddeford AMVETS Post 1 said in a news release.

The next public breakfast is scheduled for 8 to 11 a.m., Sunday, March 27, at the AMVETS Post 1, 147 Alfred St. in Biddeford. Proceeds from that breakfast will benefit the Veterans Career House on West Street in Biddeford. The final public breakfast is in April and proceeds will go to the AMVETS White Clover Fund.
