With all due respect to the companies in Maine who get revenue from print advertising and the consultants who live here, can we petition the two gubernatorial candidates to wait until the beginning of October to smear each other? I know I don’t speak for everyone, but wouldn’t it be so nice to not have to look at loud print ads that all essentially say the exact same thing, but substitute different players, for months on end?

We have two candidates who are more than well known running for governor of the great state of Maine this year. There are zero reasons that Mainers need to be bombarded by the loud, snowstorm-like music in television ads, and have our poor mail carriers deliver another shiny print ad telling me how terrible the other candidate is. I had nearly a pound of mail to recycle during the 2020 election – I kept it and weighed it on my kitchen scale. Did I look at it? Nope. I read, listen and interpret from legislation what the two candidates will do. Every Mainer has the same access to information that I do.

Can we please get a moratorium on hateful campaign speech? At least until October? Maine doesn’t need that nonsense, and honestly, if you want to show me how fiscally responsible you are, please don’t send a bunch of overwrought tripe to my house.
