Eid al-Adha is a special celebration that honors the Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion to Allah. It also marks the completion of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, according to the Islamic calendar. Like Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, Eid al-Adha is a time for families and friends to gather and celebrate with prayer, food and companionship. The holiday lasts from two to four days, depending on the country. During the event hosted by the New England Arab American Organization, children can enjoy visits from superheroes, face painting and a variety of outdoor games. Parents will receive special vouchers for halal food. Families can drop by or stay the entire day.

The event is sponsored by Northern Light Health, Good Shepherd Food Pantry, the city of Westbrook and Lee Auto Malls. For more information, call 413-262-6043.
