Indie-folk duo The Ballroom Thieves release their new album “Clouds” tomorrow on the Nettwerk label. The band is Martin Earley on guitar and vocals and Calin Peters on vocals, bass and cello.
The Midcoast-based act will be taking the stage at the historic Newport Folk Festival next week in Rhode Island and have a headlining show at Portland’s State Theatre on Dec. 9. Tickets for that show are on sale now.
“Clouds” was recorded mostly live and Peters and Earley said that the album is an artistic statement that doubles as a life mission with an emphasis on navigating life’s harder parts, particular mental health issues.
Peters and Earley share a mutual love for pop star Harry Styles and have a song with his name on “Clouds.” The tune is a vibey, trippy one that thrums along at a breezy pace with squishy keys and electric guitar flashes.
