We have had numerous overnight family and friends for 12 of the last 14 days.

We have cooked and served three meals per day, plus snacks. We have been mindful of the vegetarians, the pescatarians, the gluten free, the lactose intolerant and others on special diets. We have taken two boat rides per day, adjusting speeds and splashing risks to accommodate everyone.

We have fed, and occasionally cursed, the baby red squirrel, the multigenerational chipmunks and the dozens of birds who are non-stop foraging on our deck. We have cleaned bird poop, dog poop and other kinds of scat that we cannot identify.

We have done two dishwasher loads per day, washed and rewashed towels and gone to the supermarket three times more than our usual excursion. We have grilled, baked, stir fried, boiled, blanched and cut, sliced and diced things we never thought possible or at least probable. Did multiple washes per day, folded and ironed, made beds, unmade beds, made them again. Created spills, cleaned up spills, replaced what spilled. We have played games, sang songs and danced in the kitchen.

Well, what about today? A day off? Well … no. We must vacuum, go shopping, refill the LP tank, refill the spritz soda cartridges, clean toilets and bake and prep for the guests who are coming for the weekend, as well as others next week.

And yes, we love, love, love it.
