A house in Sebago suffered minor damage Thursday night after a lightning strike ignited a fire, but the fire melted a water line, which helped contain it.
The house at 548 Kimball Corner Road was hit by lightning shortly before 6 p.m., Sebago Fire Chief Philip Strike said. But the fire didn’t spread beyond a small part of the exterior and a small portion of the basement because of the melted water line, Strike said.
“It actually created its own sprinkler,” he said, and fire crews put out what was still burning within about 15 minutes. One woman was home at the time of the fire, Strike said, and she wasn’t injured. No firefighters were injured either, he said.
Strike estimated the damage at about $15,000. He some siding and a portion of the subflooring will need to be replaced.
