I am a member of the union bargaining team representing the nurses at Maine Medical Center. We have been bargaining for a year with Maine Medical Center, and we are close to finalizing our historic first union contract. We have already won agreement on many provisions to improve patient safety and our own working conditions. And there is more to win for our patients and ourselves.

We are proud of the work we have done so far, and especially of the powerful democratic structures we have built to share information, ideas and our victories with the entire body of union nurses at Maine Med, and to get feedback from our nurse colleagues as we continue to bargain with management. We cannot wait to finalize this first contract and use its ground-breaking provisions to improve care and conditions at Maine Medical Center. We are happy to say that our union has never been stronger than it is today!

Finally, we would not be where we are right now without the ongoing support of our local community. Thank you for continuing to stand with us. We will never stop fighting to make Maine Med the best hospital it can be for everyone.
