SCARBOROUGH — For the second year in a row, the Don Campbell Band and will be hosting the Flotilla to Fight Cancer Benefit Concert.

This year’s event takes place Saturday Aug. 20, off Cow Island in Southern Maine’s Casco Bay. This is a free event with no required ticket.

The benefit concert is to raise money for the Maine Cancer Foundation. The benefit concert takes place on the water.

“The previous event was a great success,” said Don Campbell. “We were fortunate that all planets aligned, weather was nice, no wind and the Coast Guard and Harbor Master(s) were fully accommodating and on board with our event and helped with ensuring everyone’s safety. We surpassed our $25,000 goal and garnered almost $32,000! Not one negative issue to note, after a day filled with logistics.”

“As I’m friends with many musicians, I invited a few to help fill out the day, when my own band needs a little break,” said Campbell. “My friends from Bushwood, out of the Royal River in Yarmouth will perform a half hour set. Captain Ray Card, who’s no stranger to Casco Bay and Portland’s music scene, will play a half hour set too. Ray also kindly lends us his mooring ball for the day.”

This free concert event is an actual flotilla of seacraft made up of concert goers whose donations will benefit the Maine Cancer Foundation. The band will be performing from a ‘stage’ aboard a lobster boat, with their audience gathered in boats of all shapes, sizes, and styles.

“I conceived and created the event with my business manager and friend, Kristen DeQuattro,” said Campbell. “Being a longtime boater, I realized that Maine boaters are always looking for a fun destination and it’s always fun to raft up with other boaters behind any of Casco Bay’s many islands. Cow island offers a sheltered spot, where boats can anchor easily and enjoy a day filled with music.”

Those who do not have a boat and want to attend the show can do so by purchasing a boat ticket from Fogg’s Water Taxi. They will be running a special limited space charter out to Cow Island for the afternoon.

Those interested should buy tickets now as space is limited for the concert charter. Fifty percent of the boat ticket proceeds will be donated to the Maine Cancer Foundation.

Those who are unable to attend can still donate to the Flotilla GoFundMe at https://www.gofundme.com/f/flotilla-to-fight-cancer-benefit-concert.
