Recent surgery to resolve a subdural hematoma was scary and certainly was not on my bucket list. That said, my three days recovering on Maine Medical Center’s sixth-floor neurological unit were more than remarkable for the level of care, competence and kindness I experienced from everyone who I worked with.

If anyone deserves to participate in negotiations regarding any aspect of their professional lives, it is these registered nurses and certified nursing assistants. If a union helps, I am all for it.

I thank these medical professionals for helping me through a difficult time.
