Freshman quarterback Giovanni Staples passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another Saturday, leading Westbrook to a 27-6 win over Nokomis in a Class C football game in Newport.

Westbrook (2-4) took the lead in the second quarter on a 36-yard run by Steven White. Staples then connected with Aidan Taylor for a 23-yard TD with 5 seconds remaining in the first half to make it 14-0.

Gavin Tanner extended the lead to 20-0 in the third quarter with a 64-yard touchdown catch. Staples added a 10-yard scoring run in the fourth.

Nokomis (3-3) avoided a shutout with a fourth-quarter touchdown.

WATERVILLE 26, MORSE 8: Dustin Hunter passed for 161 yards and three touchdowns, rushed for 148 yards and a score, and added an interception on defense as the Purple Panthers (4-1) beat the Shipbuilders (3-3) in Waterville.

Hunter had touchdown passes of 11 yards to Spencer Minihan and 31 yards to Tyson Smith in the first half. He scored on a 4-yard run in the third quarter, than clinched the victory with a 18-yard pass to Ben Foster.

Waterville held Morse to 148 yards, with 80 of those yards coming in the fourth quarter.

Morse quarterback Calin Gould scored on an 8-yard run early in the fourth.

BOYS’ SOCCER

KENNEBUNK 2, DEERING 1: Noah Manning scored in each half and Dylan Jones made 12 saves as Kennebunk (4-5-2) upset visiting Deering (8-2-2).

Manning opened the scoring 10 minutes into the match, assisted by Matt Durcan. Timmy Teguis set up Manning’s second goal that made it 2-0 early in the second half.

Patricio Mowa got an unassisted goal with 17 minutes remaining for Deering, which has lost two in a row. Deering keeper Adao Lufumbo-Mbenza finished with nine saves.

CAPE ELIZABETH 2, GREELY 1: Sam Cochran scored his second goal of the game on a free kick in the 80th minute, enabling the Capers (10-0-1) to escape with a win over the Rangers (6-4-1) in Cumberland.

Cochran headed in a corner kick by Sebastian Moon in the 35th minute to tie it at 1.

WINDHAM 1, THORNTON ACADEMY 0: Tyler Johnsen scored the lone goal to lift the Eagles (9-4) over the Trojans (5-5-1) at Saco.

EDWARD LITTLE 2, CAMDEN HILLS 1: Goals by Mohamed Adow and Campbell Cassidy carried the Red Eddies (10-0-1) to a win over the Windjammers (6-4-1) in Rockport.

Max Welt scored the only goal against Edward Little keeper Eli St. Laurent, who finished with six saves.

FREEPORT 1, YARMOUTH 1: Alex Graver scored for Freeport (4-3-4) in the first half and Zack Kelly tied it for Yarmouth (8-1-2) in the second half as the teams played to a draw at Yarmouth.

Ian O’Connor made eight saves for Yarmouth. Freeport’s Adam Clough stopped three shots.

ISLESBORO 6, GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 0: Matt Britton scored three goals to power the Eagles (5-1) to a win over the Lions (4-6) in Portland.

Tobias Conover, Harper Conover and Nathan Waldron also scored.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

THORNTON ACADEMY 5, DEERING 1: Charlotte Belanger tallied two of Thornton’s five first-half goals as the Golden Trojans (7-3-1) cruised past the Rams (3-7-1) in Saco.

Ashley Houde, Hadley Stoddard and Amelie Probst also scored for Thornton.

Deering’s Elsa Freeman connected on a free kick in the second half.

Ava Lomax and Olivia Frederickson split time in goal for the Trojans, combining for five saves. Sophie Hill of Deering made nine saves.

SCARBOROUGH 5, SOUTH PORTLAND 0: Ali Mokriski paced the Red Storm (10-0) with two goals and an assist in a win over the Red Riots (2-9) at Scarborough.

Lana Djuranovic and Delia Fravert each chipped in with a goal and an assist after Talia Borelli opened the scoring.

Sophia Rinaldi earned the shutout with five saves. South Portland keeper Katie O’Hare made 13 saves.

WINDHAM 10, BIDDEFORD 1: Abbey Thornton scored five goals to power the Eagles (10-2) past the Tigers (1-10) at Biddeford.

Biddeford got a goal from Ella Burnell.

CAMDEN HILLS 9, EDWARD LITTLE 2: Britta Denny poured in four goals and Leah Snyder tallied three, leading the Windjammers (6-3-1) past the Red Eddies (2-8-1) in Auburn.

Camden Hills keeper Maddy Tohanczyn joined in on the scoring by converting a penalty kick. Brenna Mackey also scored for the Windjammers.

Edward Little’s Gabby Gerry scored twice in the first half.

GORHAM 3, SANFORD 0: Katie Gooch, Ashley Connolly and Piper Forgues scored in the first 20 minutes, and the Rams (12-0) shut out the Spartans (6-4-1) in Gorham.

Gooch opened the scoring, then assisted on Connolly’s goal that made it 2-0.

Gorham keeper Katie Martin stopped nine shots, while Sanford’s Sophie Olivo had 10 saves.

FIELD HOCKEY

CHEVERUS 11, MASSABESIC 0: Lucy Johnson powered the Stags’ potent offense with four goals and an assist as Cheverus (11-0) easily handled the Mustangs (5-7) in Waterboro.

Zoe Radford added three goals, Joey Pompeo and Lily Johnson each had a goal and an assist, and Taylor Tory and Mackenzie Cash also scored.

Mazzie McAvoy made 10 saves for Massabesic.

BIDDEFORD 3, NOBLE 0: Danielle Emerson recorded eight kills and nine aces, and the Tigers (13-0) beat the Knights (2-10) in three sets at Biddeford.

FALMOUTH 3, THORNTON ACADEMY 1: Victoria Abbott had four aces, 26 digs and 15 kills as the visiting Navigators (6-7) beat the Golden Trojans (7-4) in four sets, 25-15, 25-19, 22-25 and 25-18.

Ginevra Marcoccio had 11 assists and 11 digs, Erin Andrews contributed two aces and five kills, and Gabby Bardwell had an ace and five kills for Falmouth.
