SCARBOROUGH — The Michaud Family of Scarborough has generously donated $500,000 to The NEXT 150 | Campaign for Maine Medical Center. The campaign focuses on three critical priorities: building modern and adaptable facilities at MMC, educating the next generation of caregivers in Maine and innovating solutions to improve patient care. The siblings, Andrea Michaud Reali, Patrick, Richard Jr., Tara and Peter, donated to The NEXT 150 | Campaign for Maine Medical Center in honor of their late parents Richard Sr. and Maria Michaud, who received end-of life care at Maine Medical Center (MMC).

“We lost our mother when we were just kids and one thing she told us before she passed was to ‘stick together’ — so that’s what we did,” said Richard Michaud Jr. of Scarborough, said. “My siblings and I will always be grateful for the care she and dad received while at Maine Med, and this was the best way to demonstrate that gratitude,” Michaud said.

MMC launched its $150 million capital campaign in 2021. In 2022, hospital leaders announced MMC had reached its original fundraising goal and extended the campaign to support further investments made necessary by the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Maine’s largest hospital has experienced higher volume since 2020, with sicker patients requiring longer hospital stays. Maine also has the fourth oldest physician workforce in the nation and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a national nursing shortage by 2025. MMC’s extended capital campaign seeks funding in support of its $25 million goal to meet workforce development needs.
