Please support the democratic process and affordable housing and vote “no” on Portland ballot Questions A and B. These questions would radically change Portland’s laws and yet they come to voters after a very small number of folks signed petitions. No hearings, no voices heard, no opportunity for the public to weigh in.

Portland’s City Council already passed a strict short-term-rental registration and regulation ordinance. The ordinance actually promotes affordable housing by requiring revenue generated from short-term rental registration and penalties to fund affordable housing in Portland. The existing regulation also strictly limits the number of short-term rentals and imposes fees on owners and penalties on violators.

The existing ordinance is relatively new. Let’s have patience and proceed with wisdom and with democracy in mind. If changes need to be made to the ordinance, they should be made by councilors, openly and after hearing all interested parties’ voices.
