Emma Donovan, Saylor Clark and Abby Kraemer each had a goal and an assist, and Maine advanced to the America East women’s soccer semifinals by defeating NJIT 4-1 on Sunday in Orono.
Goals by Donovan and Clark gave Maine (9-2-5) a 2-0 halftime lead. Julie Lossius made it 3-1 midway through the second half, just 19 seconds after NJIT’s only goal.
Maine, the No. 3 seed, will play at second-seeded New Hampshire on Thursday.
FIELD HOCKEY
MAINE 6, UC DAVIS 2: Poppy Lambert scored three goals and set up another, and the Black Bears (14-4, 8-0 America East) completed their regular season with a win over the Aggies (2-13, 1-7) in Orono.
Tereza Holubcova contributed a goal and two assists, and Bhreagh Kennedy and Chloe Walton also scored for the Black Bears, who were ranked 23rd in the most recent NCAA coaches poll.
Maine is the No. 1 seed and tournament host for the America East championship, which starts Thursday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
SOUTHERN MAINE CC 77, UNB SAINT JOHN 56: Maddy York hit 5 of 10 3-pointers and finished with 20 points, leading Southern Maine Community College (1-1) to a win over UNB Saint John in the Can-Am Tournament at Auburn.
The SeaWolves also got 18 points from Ashleigh Mathisen, 16 from Jaylyn Bartolome and 13 from Tara Flanders.
CENTRAL MAINE CC 87, CHAMPLAIN-ST. LAWRENCE 73: Kali Thompson paced Central Maine Community College (2-0) with 19 points in a win over the Lions in Auburn.
Emily Strachan added 15 points, and Destiny Mora Lopez had 12 points and eight rebounds in only nine minutes off the bench.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
CENTRAL MAINE CC 74, ROXBURY CC 73: Michael Connolly made a layup at the buzzer to give the Mustangs (2-0) a win over the Tigers in the Can-Am Tournament at South Portland.
Connolly finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Wyatt Hathaway and DeMarco McKissic each scored 10 points.
SOUTHERN MAINE CC 61, UNB SAINT JOHN 56: DeSean Cromwell led a balanced offense with nine points as Southern Maine Community College (2-0) held on for a 61-56 win over UNB Saint John in South Portland.
MEMPHIS: Larry Brown, the legendary coach who has won NCAA and NBA titles, is taking a leave of absence from his role as the special adviser to Memphis Coach Penny Hardaway because of a “minor medical issue.”
The school announced the move on Sunday, saying the 82-year-old Brown hopes to return soon.
FOOTBALL
AP POLL: Tennessee moved into a tie with Ohio State for No. 2 in The Associated Press poll, setting up a 1 vs. 2 matchup next week with top-ranked Georgia.
Georgia-Tennessee will be the 25th regular-season game matching the top two teams in the AP poll, and the third straight involving Southeastern Conference teams.
Georgia remained No. 1 for the fourth straight week, receiving 30 first-place votes and 1,528 points. The Volunteers received 18 first-place votes and 1,500 points to match Ohio State, which got 15 first-place votes.
