Stanford scored the first three goals of the game and beat the top-seeded University of Maine 3-1 in the semifinals of the America East field hockey tournament on Friday in Orono.

No. 5 Stanford improves to 10-8 and advances to play No. 2 Albany in the championship game on Sunday. Albany advanced with a 2-1 win over the University of New Hampshire. The Black Bears end the season 14-4.

Haley Mossmer scored all three goals for Stanford, scoring in the second, third and fourth periods. Lynn Vanderstichele had two assists.

Poppy Lambert scored in the fourth quarter for Maine.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

VERMONT 6, MAINE 1: Natalie Mlynkova scored three times and the Catamounts (6-4-1, 4-2-1 Hockey East) cruised to a win over the Black Bears (6-6, 4-3) in Orono.

Maine took a 1-0 lead when Elise Morphy scored 38 seconds into the game, with assists from Grace Heiting and Ida Kuoppala. Vermont answered about seven minutes later when Evelyne Blais-Savoie tied it. Theresa Schfzahl and Mlynkova also scored before the end of the first to give the Catamounts a 3-1 lead.

Mlynkova and Hailey Burns scored in the second for Vermont, and Mlynkova finished the scoring in the third.

Jessie McPherson had 23 saves for Vermont, while Brooklyn Oakes had 19 and Jorden Mattison seven for UMaine.

ELMIRA 3, SOUTHERN MAINE 0: The Soaring Eagles (2-0, 1-0 NEHC) scored in each period to beat the Huskies (0-3, 0-1) in Gorham.

Morgan Mordini scored in the first period, while Claire Meeder scored in the second and third for Elmira.

Leonie Kuehberger stopped 14 shots for Elmira, while Haley McKim had four saves for Southern Maine.

MEN’S HOCKEY

UCONN 3, MAINE 2: Ty Amonte scored in overtime as the Huskies (8-1-1, 4-1 Hockey East) beat the Black Bears (2-5-1, 0-2-1) in Storrs, Connecticut.

Maine took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Jakub Sirota. UConn took the lead in the second on goals by Chase Bradley and Tabor Heaslip, but Maine tied it later in the period on a goal by Justin Michaelian.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 10, WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 0: Jake Fuss scored twice as the Nor’easters won their season opener, cruising to a win over the Golden Bears (1-1) in Biddeford.

Kevin O’Keefe, Collin Heinold, Juraj Elias, Ryan Kuzmich, Daniel Winslow, Jayden Price, Jared Christy and Logan DiScanio also scored for UNE.

Billy Girard had 22 saves for the Nor’easters, while Colten Lancaster and Anthony Aureliano combined for 36 saves for Western New England.

ELMIRA 5, SOUTHERN MAINE 1: The Soaring Eagles (2-1, 1-0 NEHC) scored three goals in the third period and beat the Huskies (0-2, 0-1 NEHC) in Pine Valley, New York.

Kerfalla Toure, Janis Vizbelis, Nathan Young, Chance Gorman and Brendan Schultz scored for Elmira. Curtis Judd scored for Southern Maine.
