EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The Jets’ defense shut down Josh Allen, Zach Wilson threw a touchdown pass and Greg Zuerlein kicked a go-ahead 28-yard field goal with 1:43 remaining to lift New York to a stunning 20-17 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
With the game tied at 17, the Jets got the ball at their own 4 with 7:53 left. After New York marched to the Bills 18 on eight straight running plays against a weary Buffalo defense, Wilson connected with Denzel Mims for 12 yards on third-and-5. But the drive stalled when Wilson was sacked by Damar Hamlin on third down and the Jets settled for Zuerlein’s field goal.
New York (6-3) heads into its bye-week break just a half-game behind AFC East-leading Buffalo (6-2).
Wilson finished 18 of 25 for 154 yards and a TD pass to James Robinson, who was acquired last week from Jacksonville. Michael Carter had a 6-yard touchdown run.
The Jets’ defense did its job against Allen, intercepting him twice and sacking him five times. Allen was 18 of 34 for 205 and interceptions by Gardner and Jordan Whitehead. He also ran for two touchdowns.
DOLPHINS 35, BEARS 32: Tua Tagovailoa threw for three touchdowns, Tyreek Hill had 143 yards receiving and Miami (6-3) overcame a record-setting rushing effort by Justin Fields to win at Chicago (3-6).
Fields ran for 178 yards, the most by an NFL quarterback in a regular-season game. He had a 61-yard touchdown run and threw for three scores. He also became the first player since at least 1950 with at least 150 yards rushing and three TD passes in a game.
Tagovailoa, the NFL’s top-rated passer, had all the time he needed to throw after the Bears traded pass rusher Robert Quinn and star linebacker Roquan Smith in the past two weeks. He completed 21 of 30 passes for 302 yards.
BUCCANEERS 16, RAMS 13: Tom Brady tossed a 1-yard touchdown pass to Cade Otton with 9 seconds remaining, giving Tampa Bay (4-5) a victory a home against Los Angeles (3-5) in a sloppy matchup of the past two Super Bowl champions.
Brady took over with 44 seconds left and went 5 of 6 for 60 yards on the winning drive – the record 55th of his career. The seven-time Super Bowl champion avoided his first four-game losing streak in 20 years and beat the Rams for the first time in four tries since joining the Bucs in 2020.
Brady finished 36 of 58 for 280 yards, becoming the first player in NFL history to throw for more than 100,000 yards in a career – even though he averaged just 4.8 yards per attempt in the Bucs’ largely one-dimensional, short-passing offense.
Cooper Kupp scored on a 69-yard reception in the second quarter and Matt Gay kicked field goals of the 26 and 35 yards after halftime for the Rams, who looked like they may be able hold on to win when they stopped Brady on downs from the Los Angeles 6 with just under two minutes to go.
VIKINGS 20, COMMANDERS 17: Kirk Cousins threw two touchdown passes, Harrison Smith picked off Taylor Heinicke to set up the tying score and Minnesota (7-1) extended its winning streak to six games by rallying past Washington (4-5) in Landover, Maryland.
Playing his first game at Washington as a visitor, Cousins rebounded from an interception at the end of the first half and popped back up after one of several big hits he absorbed to lead a 68-yard drive that ended with a field goal by Greg Joseph.
Smith’s interception midway through the fourth quarter gave the Vikings the ball in the red zone. Cousins connected with Dalvin Cook on a 12-yard TD pass, which was one of his best throws of the game and compensated for some earlier inaccuracies. He finished 22 of 40 for 265 yards.
BENGALS 42, PANTHERS 21: Joe Mixon rushed for 153 yards and scored five touchdowns as Cincinnati (5-4) built a 35-0 halftime lead and cruised to a rout of visiting Carolina (2-7).
Mixon, who went into the game with three TDs all year, scored four times in the first half – the first three on short rushes and the fourth on a 12-yard pass from Joe Burrow, who finished 22 of 28 for 206 yards before taking a seat in favor of backup Brandon Allen late in the third quarter.
LIONS 15, PACKERS 9: Aaron Rodgers matched a career high with three interceptions and threw an incomplete pass on fourth down from the Detroit 17 in the final minute, letting the Lions (2-6) hold on for a win over visiting Green Bay (3-6) in a matchup of slumping teams.
The Lions ended a five-game losing streak.
Green Bay has lost five straight for the first time since 2008, when Rodgers, their four-time NFL MVP, was a first-year starter.
CHARGERS 20, FALCONS 17: Cameron Dicker kicked a game-ending field goal three days after being signed as a free agent, hitting a 37-yarder that lifted Los Angeles (5-3) to a win in Atlanta (4-5).
Dicker also made a 31-yard field goal with 5:27 left, tying the game at 17. The rookie from Texas was signed to the practice squad Thursday and activated Sunday in place of injured Dustin Hopkins.
The Chargers survived a fumble by Austin Ekeler with 34 seconds remaining. Ekeler’s fumble was recovered by Falcons defensive lineman Ta’Quon Graham, who then fumbled while returning the ball. Chargers left guard Matt Fieler recovered Graham’s fumble at the Atlanta 43.
Justin Herbert’s 22-yard pass to Joshua Palmer set up Dicker’s kick as time expired.
JAGUARS 27, RAIDERS 20: Travis Etienne ran for two touchdowns and Jacksonville (3-6) finally won a close game, rallying from a 17-point deficit to beat visiting Las Vegas (2-6).
It was the second-biggest comeback in franchise history for the Jaguars, who climbed out of a 21-point hole to beat the New York Giants in 2014.
The Raiders dominated early. They scored on four of their first five possessions and led 20-7 just before halftime. Davante Adams caught nine passes for 146 yards and two scores in the first 30 minutes.
SEAHAWKS 31, CARDINALS 21: Geno Smith threw for 275 yards and two touchdowns, rookie Kenneth Walker III ran for 109 yards and two scores, and Seattle (6-3) won its fourth straight, at Arizona (3-6).
The Cardinals grabbed the momentum and a 14-10 lead in the third quarter when Zaven Collins returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown.
But Seattle scored the next 14 points, taking the lead for good late in the third quarter on Smith’s 9-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Lockett.
