Matt Copponi scored in the first period as Merrimack beat the University of Maine in a men’s Hockey East game on Friday afternoon in North Andover, Massachusetts.

Alex Jefferies and Slava Demin each had an assists for the Warriors, who improve to 7-3, 5-1 in Hockey East.

Hugo Ollas made 16 saves for Merrimack. Victor Ostman had 16 saves for Maine (2-7-1, 0-4-1).

SOUTHERN MAINE 3, JOHNSON & WALES 0: Zach Desmarais, Tyler Gardner and Cole Ouellette scored as the Huskies (1-3-0, 1-2-0 LEC) shut out the Wildcats (0-5-0, 0-3-0) in Gorham.

Kyle Penton stopped 33 shots in net for USM. Jacob Perrin had 29 saves for Johnson & Wales.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 2, CURRY 1: Anthony Sciucco scored in overtime as the Nor’easters (2-0, 2-0 CC) beat the Colonels (3-2, 2-2) in Canton, Massachusetts.

Alex Sheehy scored in the second period for UNE. Billy Girard made 36 saves.

Killian Rowlee had a first-period goal for Curry and Reid Cooper had 36 saves in net.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

MAINE 4, HOLY CROSS 0: Rahel Enzler, Ally Johnson, Mira Seregely and Alyssa Wruble each had a goal as the Black Bears (6-7) topped the Crusaders (2-9) in Orono.

Brooklyn Oakes had 25 saves in the shutout for Maine. Brooke Loranger turned away 46 shots for Holy Cross.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 3, CURRY 0: Carolyn Curley, Piper Desorcie and Keely Kasputis scored goals in the Nor’easters (3-1) victory over the Colonels (2-2) in Biddeford.

Delanie Corcoran made 12 saves to earn the shutout. Soleil Archambeault notched 49 saves for Curry.

SOUTHERN MAINE 2, JOHNSON & WALES 1: Madison Chagnon scored in overtime with assists from Caroline Thompson and Maddie Young to lift the Huskies (1-4, 1-2 NEHC) over the Wildcats (0-1, 0-1) in Providence.

Madelyn McLeish scored a first-period goal for USM with an assist from Chagnon. Haley McKim finished with 24 saves.

Hailey Boyle scored for Johnson & Wales and Sofia Tamayo made 29 saves.

FOOTBALL

ROWAN (N.J.) 38, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 20: The Profs (7-3) outscored the Nor’easters (5-5) 28-10 in the second half and coasted to victory in Glassboro, New Jersey.

Mike Husni completed 10 passes for 196 yards and three touchdowns for Rowan, adding 107 yards rushing. John Maldonado racked up 139 yards and two touchdowns on five receptions. James Fara ran for 133 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries.

Jarrett Henault threw for 174 yards and a score for UNE. Jack Mahoney had 58 rushing yards along with a touchdown. Robert Inniss kicked two field goals.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

MAINE 90, UM-FORT KENT 45: Peter Filipovity had double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds as the Black Bears (1-1) beat the Bengals (1-1) at Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Gedi Juozapaitis had 15 points for Maine, while Kellen Tynes had 14 points, six assists and seven steals.

Jordan Guerrero led UMFK with 13 points. Nate Huynh added 12 points.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 62, RIVIER 56: Winston Bryan scored 18 points to lead the Nor’easters (1-1) over the Raiders (0-2) in Biddeford.

Ray Evans added 11 points, while Drake Gavin chipped in nine points, 12 rebounds and four assists for UNE, which forced 21 turnovers.

Nikolas Pignone scored 20 points and Pharoah Davis 16 for Rivier.

COLBY 99, ST. JOSEPH’S 95: Max Poulton had 21 points and four rebounds, helping the Mules escape with a season-opening overtime win over the Monks in Castleton, Vermont.

Will King had 17 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals for Colby. Lucas Green added 16 points and four assists while Noah Tyson tallied 14 points and six rebounds.

Griffin Foley scored a game-high 25 points for St. Joseph’s. Ashtyn Abbott posted 17 points and six rebounds. Teagan Hynes tallied 14 points.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

ST. JOSEPH’S 86, EASTERN NAZARENE 58: Hannah Talon scored 26 points to lift the Monks to a season-opening win over the Lions in Wenham, Massachusetts.

Talon was 10 for 13 from the field including 4 for 4 from 3-point range.

Nina Howe added 18 points, while Hailey Anderson added 14 for St. Joseph’s. Angelica Hurley had six points, 11 rebounds and six assists.

Alondra Jimenez led Eastern Nazarene with 15 points and six assists. Anaira Ayala had 11 points.

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 68, BERKELEY 50: Maddy York scored 24 points as the SeaWolves (4-0, 3-0 YSCC) beat the Raiders (0-3, 0-2) in Pottersville, New York.

Amanda Brett added 14 points, nine rebounds and three steals, while Ashleigh Mathisen chipped in 10 points for SMCC.

Zanya Henderson had 16 points and 12 rebounds for Berkeley. Amal Mahmoud added 15 points and nine rebounds.

(11) INDIANA 93, UMASS LOWELL 37: Former Gorham High star Mackenzie Holmes scored 17 points, Sara Scalia added 15 points and the Hoosiers (2-0) beat the River Hawks (0-2) for the fourth largest margin of victory in program history in Bloomington, Indiana.

Indiana pulled away in the second quarter as UMass Lowell went nine-plus minutes without a field goal. The Hoosiers went on a 23-3 run during the drought and led 49-17 at halftime.

Lilly Meister had 10 points for Indiana, which plays No. 5 Tennessee on Monday. The Hoosiers finished with 34 points off 20 turnovers.
