Tuesday’s election demonstrated broad support for further regulating short-term rentals and raising the minimum wage.

While the specific proposals on the ballot did not receive majority support, the subjects resonated strongly enough with Portland residents to garner roughly 40% of the vote, indicating that these issues are pressing concerns.

The City Council should consider this a mandate to pursue these topics further – like it already has regarding the cruise ship regulations proposed by Question E. If not, we should expect to see these issues on the ballot again in 2023.
