I think it is ironic that the runoff election for the Senate seat in Georgia, to be held in early December, will highlight a contest between one of the least qualified and one of the most qualified candidates for national office in recent memory.

Happening by itself, in the absence of other national and local elections that might distract public attention, this contest will clearly highlight the differences in background, integrity, grasp of important public issues and overall fitness for office between the Republican and Democratic candidates.

In the glaring spotlight of this standalone special election, one that may actually determine control of the Senate, the Republican Party should be quite embarrassed by the candidate they offer to the people of Georgia and to the country as a whole.
