Bowdoin took control with a 13-0 run in the first quarter and used a balanced attack to beat Framingham State, 62-51, in a women’s basketball game Friday night in Brunswick.

The Polar Bears (3-0) led 34-20 at halftime and by as many as 23 points in the second half. Bowdoin forced 18 turnovers and held Framingham (2-1) to 32 percent shooting.

Sydney Jones and Callie Godfrey paced Bowdoin with 10 points apiece.

(7) DUKE 92, DELAWARE 58: Kyle Filipowski scored 18 points as the Blue Devils (3-1) raced past the Blue Hens (1-2) in Durham, North Carolina.

(12) INDIANA 81, XAVIER 79: Trayce Jackson-Davis scored 30 points, Xavier Johnson had 23, and the Hoosiers (3-0) survived a late rally to beat the Musketeers (3-1) in Cincinnati.

BOWDOIN 5, WILLIAMS 3: James Cerepak and Chris Brown got the tying and go-ahead goals just 48 seconds apart late in the second period as the Polar Bears won their season opener against the Ephs in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

Nate Clark and Albert Washco also scored for Bowdoin. Brown added an empty-net goal in the final minute.

Alex Kozic made 29 saves for the Polar Bears.

COLBY 3, MIDDLEBURY 2: Tyler Crist’s power-play goal 2:19 into overtime gave the Mules a season-opening win over the Panthers in Middlebury, Vermont.

Jake MacDonald and Henry Molson also scored with the man advantage for Colby, and Andy Beran made 33 saves.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 5, SALVE REGINA 2: Dan Winslow notched a hat trick, including a pair of second-period goals, as the ninth-ranked Nor’easters (4-1, 4-1 Commonwealth Coast) beat the 14th-ranked Seahawks (3-1, 3-1) at Biddeford.

Garrett Devine and Collin Heinold gave UNE a 2-0 lead in the first period.

CASTLETON 4, SOUTHERN MAINE 3: The Spartans (2-4, 2-1 NEHC) built a 4-0 lead through two periods and held off the Huskies (1-5, 1-4) in Castleton, Vermont.

Zach Desmarais, Dylan Hullaby and Nolan McElhaney scored third-period goals for USM.

PROVIDENCE 3, MAINE 0: Rachel Weiss scored a pair of goals, and Sandra Abstreiter stopped all 42 shots she faced as the 13th-ranked Friars (11-4-1, 8-3-1 Hockey East) blanked the Black Bears (8-8, 6-5) in Providence, Rhode Island.

Sara Hjalmarsson opened the scoring 3:11 into the second period.

Brooklyn Oakes made 29 saves for Maine.

SOUTHERN MAINE 4, CASTLETON 3: Madison Chagnon recorded a hat trick for the Huskies (3-4, 3-2 NEHC) as they built a 4-1 lead and held off the Spartans (3-2, 1-2) in Gorham.

Amanda Crowley also scored for USM. Haley McKim made 40 saves.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 6, SALVE REGINA 2: After surrendering the opening goal 1:13 into the game, the Nor’easters (4-2, 3-2 Commonwealth Coast) answered with six straight goals to roll past the Seahawks (2-3, 0-3) in Middletown, Rhode Island.

Laine Lemieux, Avery Lutrzykowski and Maeve Crehan each scored twice, and Delanie Corcoran recorded 26 saves.

BOWDOIN 3, WILLIAMS 1: Peyton Mulhern broke a 1-1 tie with 13 seconds left in the second period as the Polar Bears won their season opener in Brunswick.

Gia Massari added a pair of goals, including an empty netter in the final seconds. Dani Marquez stopped 22 shots for the Polar Bears.

FOOTBALL

GAME POSTPONED: The University of Buffalo’s game against Akron was postponed due to a lake-effect snowstorm in western New York region, the Mid-American Conference announced.

With two games remaining, Buffalo (5-5, 4-2) is third in the East Division and one win shy of becoming bowl-eligible. Akron (1-9, 0-5) is last in the East.
