NEW YORK— Matt Martin, Zach Parise and Brock Nelson scored second-period goals and Semyon Varlamov made 21 saves as the New York Islanders downed the Chicago Blackhawks 3-0 on Sunday night.

The Islanders fired 40 shots at Blackhawks goalie Arvid Soderblom in snapping a two-game losing streak and improving to 9-4-0 at home.

The Blackhawks had ended an eight-game losing streak on Saturday, winning 5-2 over the Rangers. But Chicago generated minimal offensive chances against the Islanders and Varlamov, who recorded his first shutout of the season and the 37th of his career.

The Islanders are 4-1-2 in their last seven contests against the Blackhawks, including a 3-1 win in their last matchup Nov. 1 in Chicago.SABRES 6, SHARKS 3: Jack Quinn scored twice to help Buffalo beat visiting San Jose.

Tage Thompson, JJ Peterka, Jeff Skinner and Alex Tuch also scored for Buffalo, and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 26 saves. The Sabres scored three times in the second period to take control.

Nick Bonino, Kevin Labanc and Oskar Lindblom scored for the Sharks, who have lost three in a row and 6 of 7.

WILD 6, STARS 5: Frederick Gaudreau scored Minnesota’s third goal in the third shootout round as the Wild won after owning a four-goal third-period lead at Dallas.

Mats Zuccarello and Kirill Kaprizov also scored in the shootout for the Wild, who swept a back-to-back in shootouts to extend their winning streak to four games.

Roope Hintz notched his second career hat trick for the Stars, who earned points for the 10th game in their last 11. Jason Robertson and Joe Pavelski scored in the shootout for Dallas, but Hintz’s backhander rolled just short of the goal line across the crease.

JETS 5, DUCKS 2: Morgan Barron and Mark Scheifele scored a pair of quick goals in the third period and Winnipeg beat visiting Anaheim.

Barron scored at 13:23 for a 3-2 lead. Scheifele followed up with his team-leading 13th goal of the season at 15:12.

RED WINGS 4, BLUE JACKETS 2: Dominik Kubalik and Lucas Raymond scored power-play goals and visiting Detroit ended a three-game losing streak.

Austin Czarnik and Andrew Copp also scored, Filip Hronek, David Perron and Olli Maatta each had two assists and Ville Husso stopped 30 shots.

Detroit was 2 of 5 on power plays.

Marcus Bjork and Kent Johnson scored for Columbus, which has lost four straight at home. Boone Jenner had two assists and Joonas Korpisalo stopped 31 shots.
