Mikayla Talbot’s second-period goal stood up as No. 1 seed Cheverus/Old Orchard Beach/Kennebunk/Windham advanced to the South final in girls’ hockey with a 1-0 over victory Saturday against No. 4 York/Traip/Noble/Marshwood at Troubh Ice Arena.

The Stags (16-3) will face No. 2 Gorham/Bonny Eagle/Massabesic/Fryeburg/Lake Region/Westbrook in the regional final Wednesday, also at Troubh.

Despite a 20-2 advantage in shots, Cheverus couldn’t solve York goalie Katie Brower in the first period. But the Stags broke through 1:14 into the second period when Talbot scored unassisted.

York got 41 saves from Brower. Ella Lemieux stopped seven shots for Cheverus.

YARMOUTH/FREEPORT 5, BRUNSWICK 1: Sophie Smith scored twice and the top-ranked Clippers (16-2-1) advanced to the North final with a win over the fourth-seeded Dragons (12-8) in Yarmouth.

Sophie White, Adelaide Strout and Isabel Peters each added a goal for Yarmouth/Freeport, which will play for the regional title Wednesday at Troubh Ice Arena against second-seeded Penobscot.

BOYS’ HOCKEY

EDWARD LITTLE 4, BIDDEFORD 0: Cassidy Campbell and Isaac Jalbert scored in the first period, and Peyton Dyer and Drew Smith added goals just 19 seconds apart early in the second as the Red Eddies (11-3) defeated Biddeford/Massabesic/Old Orchard (5-8-1) in Auburn.

CHEVERUS/YARMOUTH 4, MESSALONSKEE 1: Cheverus/Yarmouth (10-3-2) got goals from Andrew Cheever, Brian Connolly, Owen Walsh and David Swift in a win over the Eagles (13-2) in Yarmouth.

CAPE ELIZABETH 6, LEAVITT 2: Philip Coupe tallied two goals to lead the Capers (15-2) past Leavitt/Gray-NG/Oak Hill/Poland (8-8) in Auburn.

Nick Laughlin, Connor Goss, Sebastian Moon and Colin Blackburn chipped in with a goal apiece.

Issac Ormberg and Conner Boulay scored for the Kings.

FALMOUTH 2, BANGOR 1: An overtime goal by Aaron Higgins lifted the Navigators (14-2) over the Rams (5-9-1) in Falmouth.

WRESTLING

CLASS A NORTH: Julian Henderson (126 pounds), Landon Pease (132) and Michael Rollins (138) won individual titles as Camden Hills captured the Class A North championship at Oxford Hills High School.

The Windjammers sent six wrestlers to the championship finals while scoring 142 points, 12 more than Windham/Gray-New Gloucester/Westbrook. Nine Windjammers qualified for the state meet next Saturday at Sanford High.

Ayden Cofone (120) and Scott Ingalls (182) were individual champions for the Windham co-op team, and Gavin Tanner was the runner-up to Mt. Ararat/Brunswick’s Shea Farrell at 170. The Eagles had eight state meet qualifiers.

Mt. Ararat/Brunswick also got an individual title from Dash Farrell at 152.

Other champions were Brody Simons (106) of Hampden Academy, Noah Krysztofiak (113) of Mt. Blue, Aiden Clark (145) of Skowhegan, Isaiah Morin (160) of Nokomis, Christopher Levesque (195) of Oxford Hills, and Nathan Shedd (220) and Johnny Lettre (285) of Cony/Messalonskee.

CLASS B SOUTH: Five Wells wrestlers won individual titles and six others also qualified for the state meet as the Warriors easily captured the regional championship at Fryeburg Academy.

Calvin Chase (120 pounds), Karter Crosby (126), Griffin Brickett (138), Brody Maxon (145) and Eli Potter (170) prevailed in the championship round for Wells, which finished with 244.5 points, nearly twice as many as runner-up York (128) and third-place Mountain Valley (126).

Oceanside’s Maddie Ripley, the champion in the 113-pound division last year, took the 106 title this year with a 4-1 decision over Nick Allen of Wells. Next week, she’ll try to become the first Maine girl to win a championship at the state meet.

Ripley’s twin brother, Gavin, pinned Dyllan Davis of Wells in the 132-pound final.

Other individual champions were Wynn Pooler (113), Timber Parlin (182) and Tyreke Burke (285) of Erskine Academy, Lucas Libby (152) of Mountain Valley, Caden Trask (160) of Winslow, Ben Ronca (195) of York and Marshal Addy (220) of Medomak Valley.
