“In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.”

These were some of the many words from President Ronald Reagan at his inaugural address in January 1981. It was true, correct and apropos back in 1981 when Reagan spoke those words. It remains true to this day.

Many governmental issues and problems remain within our government, including numerous bureaucratic “system failure” issues, government-wide. Newer examples of that now include the recent “weather balloon” from China, unlawfully entering American airspace. This is disturbing and troubling.

It is up to the American people, including Mainers, to demand better of their government at all levels, with greater accountability and responsibility of this government to the American people. Real accountability is needed in order for elected officials to represent Americans versus other outside special interests. Further, we need greater transparency with enhanced governmental oversight at the state level, with increased transparency and meaningful accountability of all state departments, bureaus and divisions.

In closing, we must address and remedy government’s numerous “system failure” woes. Let’s not allow anymore ineptness and “system failure” issues, with recurring misfeasance and malfeasance by government officials and their respective departments’ bureaus. Let’s move forward in a meaningful way, to fix our governments’ bureaucracies. Enough already with recurring “system failures” and chronically poor “public policy.”
