Dick Wright’s syndicated cartoon, published in the Feb. 9 Press Herald (Page A4), was wildly off the mark in implying that President Biden is somehow lax on national security.

If he paid any attention to learning the facts, instead of relying on right-wing soundbites, Wright would know that the Biden administration has been highly vigilant and especially focused on cyber technology as a key component of national security policy.

That focus has provided important information about the recent Chinese balloon, as well as about previous balloons that had gone undetected. By waiting to shoot it down, defense officials were able to both collect intelligence from the device and prevent the Chinese from getting information.

President Biden is deserving of praise for his intelligent handling of this incident.
