Portland-based alternative rock band John Hughes Radio is releasing the album “Outsail The Sea” on Friday with a show at Sun Tiki Studios, where you’ll be able to pick up a physical copy. You can also find it on streaming platforms.

The band is Matt Zimm and Michael Solak on guitar, Jason Marshall on bass, drummer Max Heinz and singer Sean Slaughter.

The band name is a nod to films by the late writer and director John Hughes because the ’80s alternative feel to their music would be well-suited to those soundtracks. Think “Pretty in Pink,” “The Breakfast Club” and “Sixteen Candles.”

John Hughes Radio takes the stage at 8 p.m. Friday, followed by Mike Maurice, who is releasing his album “Apartment Secrets.” Bad Combo closes out the evening. Sun Tiki Studios is at 375 Forest Ave. in Portland. Tickets for the all-ages show are $10 in advance and $13 at the door. Buy them here.
