A Massachusetts man was killed Saturday in a snowmobile crash in northern Maine.

Darryl Sittler, 57, of Chelmsford died Saturday afternoon after his snowmobile collided with two others on a trail in Oxbow, according to a release from Mark Latti, spokesman for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

Sittler and his wife were traveling north on separate snowmobiles when they met a group of three other snowmobilers traveling south, Latti said. Sittler’s snowmobile collided with snowmobiles operated by 20-year-old Scout Sylvester and his brother, 23-year-old Jack Sylvester, both of Greene, near the top of a rise in the trail.

Sittler died at the scene while Scout Sylvester was transported to Northern Lights Hospital in Presque Isle, where he was treated for an injury to his hand and released.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:20 p.m. on snowmobile trail ITS 85 in Oxbow, an unincorporated township in Aroostook County. Following the crash, the Maine Warden Service shut down the snowmobile trail for three hours.
