A few ideas on what I see coming because of the electrification of America:

First, within a decade, the government will require all citizens to own electric cars, which will mean upgrading everybody’s electric service.

Second, we will have all oil, gas, natural and propane stoves, heaters, ovens, home heaters, etc., removed and replaced with heat pumps (which also require heat backup), electric baseboard heaters and similar sources.

Third, all this electrification will put an enormous strain on the electric grid, which means we will need a new grid that can handle the load, which, at present, it cannot; these loads will double, triple or even quadruple the need. And where will we put all these new towers? That’s another future problem in Maine.

Fourth, as we know, the ultimate goal is to become carbon neutral. Well, solar panels wear out and windmills freeze, break down, etc. And, to all my neighbors who own woodstoves, beware! The government will be telling everyone to throw out their woodstoves.

As a retired electrical contractor and engineer, I am all for electrification but feel that we are moving too fast on alternative “green” energy.
