The Nott House will open for the season on Memorial Day weekend, and the Book Lover’s Tour visit will take place on Saturday, May 13, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at Kporths.com/events.

According to a news release from the historical society, “The Nott House, located at 8 Maine St. was gifted to the Kennebunkport Historical Society in 1982 by local librarian, Elizabeth Nott. Built in 1853 by Eliphalet Perkins, the town’s wealthiest merchant, the house was purchased by his son and business partner, Charles, who moved in with his bride that same year and they raised their family in the house. The home is filled with a very special book collection, which is often not discussed during the tours offered by the historical society in the summer.”

The Nott House library includes volumes of children’s books and lessons, novels, bound diaries, and more. Many of the volumes predate the house, but the collection spans over a century of the family’s stewardship, including the private collection of the town’s librarian.

“We are so pleased to offer this very special in-depth look at the collection of books from the Nott House,” said Kennebunkport Historical Society Executive Director Kristin Haight in an email. “This tour is sure to be of interest to the many book enthusiasts in the area.”
