The newspaper’s April 30 editorial (“Our View: Troubling child welfare report should light a fire under Maine”) was excellent. It stated what needs to be done to help serve the needs of children, especially the low income and disadvantaged ones.
If I may, I now ask the newspaper to spell out exactly how to effect these changes, or more bluntly, how to make it happen. I ask as I don’t see any true willingness in our society to focus our energy, talent, time and money to solve this issue. A critical issue, for sure, given that we in Maine now have one of the worst records in the U.S. for care to children who are abused and neglected.
