Greely High School junior Maddie Yates took first place in the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame 2023 High School Student Guitar competition and will perform May 21 at the hall of fame’s 46th annual induction ceremony.
Yates has been playing music since she was a child and now plays guitar in Flight 317, a student bluegrass band. She has performed in several student musicals at Greely and with the Portland Symphony Orchestra youth chorus.
At the May 21 show, Yates will perform with Hall of Fame inductees at the Silver Spur in Mechanic Falls. As this year’s student winner, she will receive a Taylor guitar.
