Cape Elizabeth residents have passed the fiscal year 2024 school department budget with the amount of $34,170,000. The vote was 849-686. The voter turnout was 17 percent.

The goals of the budget, according to the school department, are to “meets the academic, social-emotional, and health needs of all students, support recruitment and retention of high-quality personnel, support appropriate and on-going building maintenance and repair, support the advancement of instructional skills of our staff, and reflect a careful consideration of the effectiveness and efficiency of each line item and position.”

The budget process went through a number of meetings and public hearings in the spring. The budget includes over $15 million for regular instruction, over $4.7 million for special education, about $1 million for other instruction such as athletics, co-curricular, and summer school.

Student and staff support such as guidance, library and media, technology, health, etc., received about $3.7 million. System administration was budgeted for about $935,000. Transportation and buses are budgeted for about $1 million, facility maintenance about $4.8 million, and smaller amounts for debt service and all other expenditures.
