Robert Sam Kelley of Scarborough, a Vietnam War veteran, was honored with a Myra Kraft Community MVP Award earlier this month on behalf of the New England Patriots Foundation.

As a volunteer with Vet to Vet Maine, Kelley has been a “peer companion” for three other veterans and has helped them access benefits to improve their quality of life, according to the organization. He is now working with a 96-year-old veteran in Portland.

“Helping another veteran as a Vet to Vet Maine volunteer is literally one of the best things I have ever done for my fellow man in life,” Kelley said in a press release.

In all, 26 volunteers were honored at the ceremony at Gillette Stadium on June 8, and the foundation donated $275,000 to nonprofits, including $10,000 to Vet to Vet Maine.
