Trevor Schwecke singled home the tying and go-ahead runs in a four-run ninth inning as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats rallied for a 6-4 win over the Portland Sea Dogs in an Eastern League game Saturday night at Hadlock Field.

Earlier, Tyler Dearden homered in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Sea Dogs a 7-6 win in the completion of a game suspended Friday night because of a thunderstorm.

The Fisher Cats tied Friday’s game with four runs in the top of the ninth and had the bases loaded with one out when the game was stopped. When the game resumed Saturday, Ryan Miller escaped the jam with two strikeouts, and Dearden led off the bottom half with a drive to center for his third home run of the season.

In the regularly scheduled game, the Sea Dogs built a 4-2 lead with the help of home runs from Nathan Hickey and Alex Binelas but couldn’t close it out.

Trevor Story, in the second game of his rehab assignment with the Sea Dogs, was 0 for 4 with four strikeouts.

AUTO RACING

INDYCAR: Josef Newgarden continued his mastery of the ovals on the IndyCar Series this season, winning the first half of a weekend doubleheader at Iowa Speedway.

It was Newgarden’s third win of the season, all on ovals, and his fifth win at Iowa Speedway. Newgarden also won at Texas Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis 500.

Scott McLaughlin finished second. Pato O’Ward, who along with Newgarden won in last season’s doubleheader at Iowa, was third, and Marcus Ericsson finished fourth.

XFINITY: Austin Hill survived a wild restart in the final overtime laps at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania, and earned his fourth Xfinity Series victory of the season.

Josh Berry, needing a win to qualify for the playoffs, held the lead until a late wreck brought out the caution. Berry slammed into the wall off the restart and wrecked. Hill had enough fuel in the No. 21 Chevrolet to speed away and get the win.

CYCLING

TOUR DE FRANCE: Tadej Pogačar pipped Jonas Vingegaard to take the penultimate stage – an 83-mile ride from Belfort to the mountain resort of Le Markstein.

Pogačar’s victory won’t be enough to stop his rival from winning the overall title for the second straight year. Vingegaard maintained his huge lead over two-time champion Pogačar and will surely be crowned the Tour winner after Sunday’s largely ceremonial stage ends on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.
