Joey Foley rushed for four touchdowns – three in the second half – as Deering pulled away for a 35-6 victory over Mt. Blue at Farmington.

Pedro Lombi opened the scoring for Deering (2-0) with a 25-yard run in the first quarter.

Foley made it 13-0 in the second quarter with a 5-yard run, but Mt. Blue (0-2) answered just before halftime when Klay Dunning threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Trey Bailey.

Foley then scored from 38 and 23 yards in the third quarter, and went in again from the 1 on the first play of the fourth. A long pass from Tavian Couture to Lombi set up the final touchdown.

LEAVITT 45, CAPE ELIZABETH 7: Noah Carpenter passed for three touchdowns in the first quarter, starting the Hornets (2-0) on their way to a win against the Capers (0-2) in Cape Elizabeth.

Leavitt, ranked second in the Varsity Maine top 10, scored on its first five possessions while building a 37-0 halftime lead.

The Hornets struck on their first play from scrimmage, after a penalty, as Carpenter connected with Aiden Turcotte for a 43-yard touchdown.

Later in the first, Will Keach caught a 26-yard scoring pass, and Maddox Demers scored on a 48-yard reception. A conversion pass from Keach to Colten Taylor after the third TD made it 22-0.

Carpenter (18 yards) and Keach (14 yards) added touchdown runs in the second quarter.

Demers capped Leavitt’s opening drive of the second half with a 4-yard run. Cape Elizabeth then drove for its only touchdown – a 1-yard run by Mike Foley – just before the third quarter ended, and the game was called at that point with bad weather approaching.

MT. DESERT ISLAND 44, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 16: Spencer Laurendeau and Jacob Shields each ran for two touchdowns as the Trojans (2-0) toppled the Patriots (0-2) at Bar Harbor.

Gray-New Gloucester opened the scoring on an 86-yard touchdown pass from Kobi Conant to Nick Geer in the first quarter.

Laurendeau scored his first rushing touchdown from 10 yards out to make it 8-8 by the end of the quarter.

Shields (15 yards) and Laurendeau (10) ran in for second-quarter touchdowns and a 20-8 halftime lead. Laurendeau had 168 yards rushing in the first half.

He scored the only touchdown of the third quarter, returning an interception 75 yards.

Shields and Lincoln Gray had fourth-quarter touchdown runs to push the Trojans’ lead to 44-8. Gray-New Gloucester rounded out the scoring with the clock running late in the fourth quarter.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH 54, DIRIGO 0: Asher Hubert, Wesley Gallant and Brady Plante rushed for two touchdowns each as the Seagulls (2-0) beat the Cougars (1-1) at Old Orchard Beach.

Hubert had rushing touchdowns of 26 and 20 yards. Reid MacNair also had a 26-yard rushing touchdown. The game was called at halftime because of weather.

YARMOUTH 59, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 14: Michael McGonagle ran for five touchdowns in the first half, including an 86-yard romp to open the scoring as the Clippers (2-0) handled the Pheonix (0-2) at Jay.

Sam Bradford had a 5-yard touchdown run and added a passing score to Adam Pelotte as Yarmouth opened a 37-8 halftime advantage.

Brody Souther had a kickoff return touchdown for Spruce Mountain.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 5, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 0: Ella Giguere scored two goals to help the Panthers (3-0-1) power past Old Orchard Beach (1-1) at Yarmouth.

Lyla Casey, Caroline Matusovich and Natasha Godfrey also scored for the Panthers.

Madison Duplisea made seven saves for Old Orchard.

MARANACOOK 1, TRAIP ACADEMY 0: Evelyn Stevenson scored from Phoebe Bell with 12 minutes left in the first half as the Black Bears (3-0) stopped the Rangers (1-2) at Readfield.

Stella Stewart came up with six saves for Maranacook.

Lily Stuart stopped 15 shots for the Rangers.

DEERING 3, MASSABESIC 0: Elsa Freeman scored all three goals as the Rams (1-2) handled the Mustangs (0-3) in a game shortened due to lightning at Waterboro.

Freeman scored unassisted from 30 yards in the first two minutes, put in a ball from 18 yards following a setup from Shea Rosenthal in the 22nd, and added another unassisted goal in the opening minutes of the second half before a close lightning strike stopped the game after about 10 minutes.

Sophie Hill needed two saves for the win.

BOYS’ SOCCER

ERSKINE ACADEMY 2, OCEANSIDE 1: Holden McKenney scored with 18:08 remaining to lift the Eagles (2-1) over Oceanside (2-1) at South China.

Landon Lefebvre also scored off a direct kick from Noah Crummett for Erskine. Caleb Gay made nine saves

Harrison Garcia scored for the Mariners.

CARRABEC 5, TELSTAR 1: Lucas Vicneire had two goals and two assists to pace the Cobras (2-0) over Telstar (0-2) at North Anson.

FIELD HOCKEY

SKOWHEGAN 8, EDWARD LITTLE 0: Sydalia Savage scored four goals to pace the River Hawks (3-0) past the Red Eddies (1-2) at Skowhegan.

Layla Conway added two goals, and Kaylee Bruce and Elli Quinn each scored once.
