Cam Miller threw for 152 yards and rushed for 68 yards and two touchdown as North Dakota State cruised to a 44-7 win over Maine on Saturday in Fargo, North Dakota.
Cole Payton passed for 40 yards, while rushing for 102 yards and two touchdowns for the Bison (2-0), the No. 2-ranked team in the Football Championship Subdivision.
Maine (0-2) held North Dakota State to a pair of field goals in the first quarter, despite turnovers on two of its first three drives. The Black Bears also stopped the Bison on consecutive plays at the goal line late in the first quarter.
North Dakota State started to pull away when Miller scored on a 2-yard run with 52 seconds left in the first half. Miller scored again early in the third before Payton added two straight rushing touchdowns to make it 37-0 early in the fourth quarter.
John Gay scored on a 13-yard run in the fourth for Maine. Derek Robertson completed 18 of 29 passes for 117 yards and three interceptions.
UNE 31, PLYMOUTH STATE 21: Jarrett Henault threw a pair of first-half touchdown passes as the Nor’easters (2-0) built a 17-7 halftime advantage and downed the Panthers (0-2) in Plymouth, New Hampshire.
Henault finished 16 of 23 for 193 yards. He also rushed nine times for 16 yards and two touchdowns.
Willie Lombard had 106 yards rushing for Plymouth State.
SPRINGFIELD 45, HUSSON 20: The Pride (2-0) took a 21-6 lead in the first quarter and beat the Eagles (1-1) in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Arsen Shetfan rushed 20 times for 153 yards and two touchdowns for Springfield. Jacob Silvester added two rushing touchdowns.
Husson’s Elijah Garnett carried 17 times for 164 yards and two touchdowns, including a 76-yard run in the first quarter.
(1) GEORGIA 45, BALL STATE 3: The Bulldogs (2-0) intercepted three passes, and walk-on Mekhi Mews had a 69-yard punt return for a touchdown, leading slow-starting Georgia to a win over the Cardinals (0-2) in Athens, Georgia.
The two-time reigning national champions were held scoreless in the opening quarter, but Georgia finally got rolling with a 31-point outburst in the second quarter against the overmatched Cardinals.
The 5-foot-8 Mews, quickly becoming one of Georgia’s most exciting weapons, took a punt at his own 31, shook off a couple of would-be tacklers, weaved past another defender, and found a wall of blockers down the sideline.
(2) MICHIGAN 35, UNLV 7: Blake Corum ran for three touchdowns and J.J. McCarthy threw two more scoring passes to Roman Wilson to help the Wolverines (2-0) rout the Rebels (0-1) in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The Wolverines were without suspended Coach Jim Harbaugh for the second game of his three-game, school-imposed suspension for breaking NCAA rules.
(5) OHIO STATE 35, YOUNGSTOWN STATE 7: Kyle McCord threw for three touchdowns in the first half – two of them to All-American Marvin Harrison Jr. – and the Buckeyes (2-0) blew past the Penguins (1-1) in Columbus, Ohio.
McCord, starting for the Buckeyes in his third year in the program, was 14 of 20 for 258 yards, including a scoring pass to Emeka Egbuka. It was a solid bounce-back against a lesser opponent after a shaky opener at Indiana last week.
(7) PENN STATE 63, DELAWARE 7: Nick Singleton ran for three touchdowns, and No. 7 Penn State’s defense was nearly perfect as the Nittany Lions (2-0) defeated the Blue Hens (1-1) in State College, Pennsylvania.
Kaytron Allen ran for 103 yards and a touchdown, while quarterbacks Drew Allar and Beau Pribula each scored on second-half runs for the Nittany Lions, who dominated their FCS counterparts.
(10) NOTRE DAME 45, NORTH CAROLINA STATE 24: Audric Estime ran for an 80-yard touchdown on the first play after an extended weather delay, and Sam Hartman threw for four scores to help the Fighting Irish (3-0) beat the Wolfpack (1-1) in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Estime ran for 134 yards and two scores, including a 7-yard run through traffic with 10:42 left that put the Fighting Irish (3-0) in firm control. Notre Dame has won 29 straight regular-season matchups against Atlantic Coast Conference teams in its scheduling partnership with the conference as a football independent but a member in all other league sports.
(22) COLORADO 36, NEBRASKA 14: Shedeur Sanders accounted for three scores, Colorado’s defense forced four turnovers, and the Buffaloes (2-0) beat longtime rival Nebraska (0-2) in the home debut of Coach Deion Sanders at sold-out Folsom Field.
After Coach Prime’s team was the story of Week 1 with an upset of TCU, the Buffs showed it was no fluke.
Shedeur Sanders threw for 393 yards and two scores while running for another touchdown. He capped his 6-yard romp with the dance steps his dad made famous during his playing days.
JAMES MADISON 36, VIRGINIA 35: Jordan McCloud hit Kaelon Black for a 10-yard touchdown pass with 55 seconds to play, capping a fourth-quarter rally, and the Dukes (2-0) beat Virginia (0-2), spoiling the Cavaliers’ first home game since three players were fatally shot last November.
CENTRAL MICHIGAN 45, NEW HAMPSHIRE 42: Tristan Mattson kicked a 47-yard field goal as time expired, giving the Chippewas (1-1) a wild victory over the Wildcats (1-1) in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
BOSTON COLLEGE 31, HOLY CROSS 28: Former backup Thomas Castellanos threw for 204 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 69 yards as the Eagles (1-1) held off the Crusaders (1-1) in a lightning-delayed renewal of a century-old rivalry between the Massachusetts Catholic schools.
